First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) acknowledges the First Nations upon whose traditional lands this document was prepared. Primarily, this plan was written on the traditional lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, W̱SÁNEĆ and Lekwungen Peoples.
We also recognize the Métis people and urban Indigenous people who make their homes on these lands.
Although this toolkit focuses on the context in B.C., most of the teachings included can be applied to the diverse contexts of many Indigenous Nations across Canada and globally. We encourage users of the toolkit to apply any relevant learnings to their own communities, wherever they may be.
We are also mindful of the diverse cultural teachings and protocols that exist across Indigenous nations. Cultural protocols are at the heart of ICH planning and programs, and anything that is suggested in this guide is meant to be adapted to honour individual community protocols. In this way, we have avoided providing recommendations for following certain protocols or ceremonial approaches to this work. We leave that space for communities to fill in themselves based on their own teachings.
